Back to School Blog Hop- Last Day! (Freebie!)

Ok.  Confession.  I am not just now going back to school.  Teachers have been back to school around here since the end of July!! Sad news friends...today is the last day of the Back to School Blog Hop!  I've seen some pretty amazing shares throughout the month of August, haven't you?  Thanks so much to my friend, Mary Amoson of Sharing Kindergarten for arranging this blog hop!
I want to share with you today one of my new tools for positive reinforcement that I am using this year.  In the past, I have always used the whole "Compliment Chart" thing...you know, where every time your kids earn a compliment you move the clip to the next letter (or add the next letter in the word)?  Then once you have the word completed your kids earn a treat?  Well, as most of you know I have a slight addiction to Pinterest....and last summer I found a cute alternative to the usual Compliment Chart that uses Mr. Potato Head instead! (See the original I pinned here.)
I had to make one for my classroom this year so I enlisted the Hubs to help me make some cute body part clip art for my sign.  I think it turned out pretty cute!  Every time my boys and girls earn a compliment in the hallway, lunch room, etc. we vote on which body part to add to Mr. Potato next.  Once he is complete...we celebrate and then start over.  The kids have really taken to this already and Mr. Potato usually comes up in our conversations at least once a day.  We have already filled him up once and are now working on a second compliment treat! :)
You can snag your own copy of the sign for free by clicking {here} or the picture below.
I hope you like it!

Make sure you stop by Monica's blog too!
She's co-hosting the last day with me over at Treasures for Teaching! :)

Thank you! Now I just need to head to Wal Mart and pick me up a Mr Potato Head! (I think my kids might be sad if I "borrowed" their Mr Potato Head!)

  8. I love this idea! I used to build the word "Compliment" with my fifth grade students to earn choice time on Fridays. It's the same idea but instead of building Mr. Potato Head I laminated a each letter in compliment and after they got a compliment we put it up a letter on the board. This is adorable for my speech kids now! Thanks for sharing!

  9. What a fun idea! We often get compliments while walking through the hall quietly and respectfully. This would be a fun way to showcase our compliments. Thank you!

    1. It should be working Barbara. I just checked it and it the Google Doc seemed to open and download fine. Maybe try it with a different web browser? Let me know if you still have trouble and we can figure something out.

  14. What kind of treats do you give when the potato head is complete with body parts?

    1. I usually let the kids vote. Sometimes we do popsicles at recess or it could be popcorn and a movie (like Magic School Bus or Leap Frog), extra recess, or free-play centers. I've even let kids bring a beach towel and read books outside in the shade of the tree.

  15. I use Mr. Potato Head in my 6th grade classroom as a whole-group incentive. The students love the visual. I give pieces based on compliments, the entire class participating and behaving, or meeting class goals. Once all the pieces are in place, the class votes on a reward. So far the big winners have been extra recess, Class Dojo points, and homework passes.
