A Collection of Poems for the Whole Year (FREE!)

One of my favorite things to teach is poetry.  I love connecting it to our units- especially science and math!  One of the first things I ever created was a pack of poems that can be used throughout the year.  I originally created it for my very first 1st grade class but have used the poems in kindergarten and 2nd grade as well.  I did not write any of these poems but I did create the simple activities to go with them.  :)
I've included 41 poems in the collection.  Here are images of 4 of the poems:

Nothing fancy!  All 41 poems are simple but fun to learn!

I hope you enjoy these as much as I have!

Writing Prompt Freebie (The Little Engine That Could)

Hi there! Just a quick post tonight.  This week we will be reading Watty Piper's The Little Engine That Could.  If you are familiar with the story (and I'm sure that you probably are...) then you are aware of the "never give up" theme throughout the book.  I plan to have my kids reflect for a few minutes tomorrow about a time when they were persistent about something or about something they want to do but aren't sure they actually can.  We will probably "think, pair, share" for a bit and then I whipped up this prompt page for them to work on at writing station as an extension.  If you think you can use it then you can click on the image or {here} to download a copy.

By the way, have you seen the movie that came out a few years ago?  It is very different from the book.  We are going to watch it later this week and compare and contrast the two versions!

Amazon even has the movie for rent on instant download here:
Have a great week!
