Hooray for our 100th Day!

Meet Granny Lirette and Granny Morris
Phew!  I. am. exhausted.

Today we celebrated our 100th day of school.  My team decided to dress like old ladies for the occasion.  We didn't tell the kids so they were completely surprised as we greeted them at the door.  Hilarious!  Some of them didn't even want to go in the classroom because they couldn't quite figure out who we were and what was going on.  Here's a pic I took with my adorable student teacher {right}.
Last week I asked for some help with 100th day ideas on my Facebook page.  Thanks to everyone who commented! Julie R. suggested a "scavenger hunt" with Hershey's kisses.  We tried it today and it was SO much fun!  All you do is take 100 kisses and program them with numbers 1-100 on the bottom.  I used dot stickers so the numbers show up more clearly.  After scattering or hiding the kisses around the room, have your students find them and match them up to the correct square on the hundreds chart.  Super easy and it got the kids moving.
Our skip counting caterpillars turned out super cute and our fruit loop necklaces were very colorful.

We also made yummy snack mixes of 100 items and attempted 100 cup structures.
Hundreds Day would not be complete without 100 year old portraits!
"When I am 100 years old I will look like this.  I will be handsome."
"When I am 100 years old my hair will be gray."
I leave you with my sweet one.
She will join us for the 100th day of K next year!

Fab 5 for Writing! Anchor Charts and Student Rubric

My sweet friend and co-worker asked if I would put together a kid-friendly rubric for writing.  Seeing as today is her birthday (Happy birthday, Beth!) I made it a priority to get this done this evening.

I've been using my "Fab 5" model for years but have never thought to pair it with a rubric that the students can use as a checklist as they are writing.  I can't wait to try it out this week!

Snow Buddies Sight Word Practice! {FREE}

I realize a good many of you are being blanketed (or even buried) in snow right now.   This is NOT the case for my hometown.  How can it be this cold in Memphis with not so much as a flake of snow?? I want to build a snowman!  In my moment of sulking I created a new sight word fluency game with some of Nikki's adorable Snow Bunch clipart.  Adorable, right?
Do you follow my page on Facebook?  If so, all you need to do is visit the tab at the top of the page to head on over and download this freebie.  If you do not yet follow…no worries.  Just swing by and "like" the page and you will instantly be able to download the game for free as well.

Happy New Year! {2 festive FREEBIES!}

Happy 2014 to everyone!  I rang in the new year with my family in Disney World!  We just got home and I'm missing it already.  Sigh.  Whipping up a new activity for stations next week made me feel a little better.  I'd love to share it with everyone!  It is similar to November's Patriotic Rhyming Words Write the Room…same concept…new rhyming pairs…new year theme.  :)

 Grab it for free {HERE} or by clicking on the pictures.

If you didn't grab last year's Roll and Cover games you can download them for free too!  Click {HERE} or the picture below.

 Anyone already back to school?  Teachers have an in-service Monday and kids start back on Tuesday, January 7th here in Memphis.
